Kevin Brown II

Brown was born and raised in Indianapolis, IN in the northeast city of Lawrence. The son of Kevin and Teresa Brown, both educators/admin in Lawrence Township, Brown grew up with a strong spiritual and educational foundation. A graduate of Lawrence Central High school, Brown was a 3 sport athlete (basketball, football, track & field) while maintaining academic honors. Brown committed to play football on a full ride scholarship to the University of Cincinnati, graduating high school after the first semester of his senior year to enroll in classes and join the team for winter conditioning and spring football.

After 4 years, 2 conference championships and 2 coaching changes, Brown graduated from UC on the Dean’s List in his final semester with a BA in Public Health.

After his senior year, Brown had a workout with the Indianapolis Colts and a solid pro day to prove he was ready to transition from college to the pros. Brown went undrafted in the 2016 NFL draft and received no training camp invites.

Wanting to continue his professional journey, Brown joined Kendezi Academy at School 69, a charter school on the near eastside of Indianapolis, that served predominately children grades K-6. Brown was able to serve his community by teaching and mentoring the students of Kindezi, a role that played a very important role in his personal development and growth as a leader.

After a few months working at Kindezi, Brown was approached to attend a workout for a CFL team holding an open tryout in Indianapolis. Brown saw this as an opportunity to continue playing the game he loved. After the workout, the team offered Brown a deal and he went on to sign his first professional football contract for the Ottawa Redblacks.

Brown was placed on the practice roster for the majority of his first season, but when he finally got his opportunity to step on the field, he never looked back. Now, 49 games, 159 tackles, 3 sacks and 2 interceptions later, Brown saw another opportunity to impact his community back home in Indianapolis, and retired from pro football after winning the Grey Cup in 2021.

Brown has, since retirement, transitioned from a successful playing career, to impacting his community through real estate development as the first ever Trent L. Garrett Fellow at Intend Indiana (formerly Renew Indianapolis).
